Default Nikon D90 & A-Dep mode

Just switched over to Nikon from using Canon for some time. I know the Canons have a A-Dep mode on the control dial.

Does Nikon have something similar?

What does A-dep mode mean?
Do you mean an aperture priority mode? (ie. you choose the aperture and the camera chooses the shutter speed)

If so then yes, the D90 (and all nikon cameras for that matter) does have that, it's the A mode on your dial.

Sounds like you mean Aperture-Priority mode. On Nikons, it's "A" on the dial, and it's equivalent to the "Av" mode on Canons.

Or, do you mean something else?

A-DEP mode is a slightly odd mode only found on Canons. It's kind of like Program mode, with the priority given to the aperture size; it chooses the best aperture based on the focus points in order to get the most appropriate depth of field. It's used for things like group shots where people are at different distances from the camera.

Nikons don't have it AFAIK. I think Nikon assume their users have the intelligence to set their own aperture in those situations

Thanks RecurrentNerve... often its a good setting to have... especially when all AF points are highlighted to get a better focussed shot...
