Default nikon doubler for 75-200 nikkor vr lens

Hi, I have a nikon D60 with a 75-200 nikkor VR lens. I would like to be able to take photos from a greater distance as I live close to Yellowstone and other great areas for wildlife photography. However, I cannot afford a really long lens at this time. Does anyone recommend a particular doubler for my lens and camera. I have heard there are good doublers out there which might be the idea since they are less costly than a longer lens. Any help would be appreciated. I really would like to have nice clear shots and the cheap telephoto and/or doubler lenses are not getting it done. They are grainy and blurry. I know that I have to use a tripod which is fine.

Please any suggestions or input is greatly appreciated.

I want to be closer than this for sure! Nice shot from this past weekend, but still too far away. It would be nice to be half this distance. I got as close as I could physically but then had to rely on the lens. Help!!!!

I;m going to assume that the OP made a typo and meant the 70-200 f/2.8 VR. In which case, any of the Nikon TCs will work, and since the OP is clearly looking for best reach, the new 2.0III is likely the best bet

Half right. He has the 55-200mm f/4-5.6 as seen in the EXIF here: Exif | Eagle | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

If that's the case, then there are no teleconverters that are compatible. Even the TC14 makes it an f/8 at the long end, which precludes autofocus. Not to mention the fact that at 55mm the rear element of the lens would strike the front element of the TC.

Well, the Kenko 1.4x might fit physically. However, based on experience with this TC on a 70-300 VR, the IQ and autofocus may well be unsatisfactory.

It'll mount to the 70-300 as, even at 70mm, the rear element of the lens is still well within the body of the lens. On the 55-200, at 55mm the rear element of the lens is exposed at the back of the lens. If the Kenko were mounted, the rear element of the lens would strike the front element of the TC>

Ah, OK, I'm not familiar with the 55-200.

Instead of an extension or a new lens, have you tried getting physically closer? That other photographer is pretty darn close!
