Default Nikon D300s - Video Questions

I believe I am trying to do something that can not be done due to the way the Nikon handles video.

I own a mountain biking site and I would like to be able to video sections of the trail on bikes for review purposes. However, in the interest of memory card space and the 5 minute recording time limit, just setting it up...hitting record...and walking away isn't really a viable option.

Is there a way to remote trigger the video recording? I have tried a wired trigger/wireless remote option and that (obviously) just fires the shutter and not the center button required in live view mode.

Thanks for the help.
