Post Which lens should i buy?(Nikon D5000)

Hello,

I recently purchased Nikon D5000 with 18-55mm kit lens.
I am looking to buy a new lens for around $200. Ideally around $150.

Which one of these two is better?
Sigma 50-200mm f/4.0-5.6 DC IF SLD Optical Stabilized (OS) Lens with Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras($147)

or
Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 SLD DG Macro Lens with built in motor for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras (159)

Thanks

I don't know about the quality of those lenses. Personally I'd go for the stabilized one, as at those focal distances stabilization is really helpful.

I don't know Nikon but how much would their budget Telephoto run, I understand it has VR, does it not have a motor built in for your d5000? I just think that in that price range you are probably going to find that the Nikon option is probably the best option, IMO it isn't until you start looking at the higher end of the spectrum that the off brands start to make sense since the quality isn't perfect but its generally more than acceptable depending on what you are doing for a fraction of the big brand price.

Both seem to have the motor in the lens. The DC line from Sigma is pretty good. I'd be more interested in where those prices came from

If you dont need it right away, there's supposed to be a 55-300 VR DX released in early september.

I recently purchased the Sigma 70-300 and love it! It's a little stiff between 200 and 300mm but it takes good clear shots. It autofocuses fast and really increased me picture-taking abilities with the range it added.

Rumors are of a 420 Euro MSRP, so call it $300?

Make sure the switch on the lens is set to A. If it still isn't focusing automatically when you press the shutter release down halfway then send it in.
