Hi Everyone,
First and mostly - HI :P I'm new here (on the forums, at least), been following the website for some time. I've owned some P&S cameras before, I had an old Zenit SLR, and I played with a D5000 for about 2 weeks, but had to sell it after that. For the last couple of months I was saving for a D90, and I'm pretty much ready to buy it, but a new thought just came. From what I read, Nikon should be announcing new camera models soon, possibly in September. If they announce a D90 replacement, it's most likely that the price for existing cameras will fall, so the question is: should I wait a month or two and hope for a price drop, or am I mistaken, and I won't save anything? |

Scott got it dead on. You could wait forever if you always want to get the newest gear, because digital cameras are being released and updated constantly. It's probably worth waiting a little while if an upgrade is imminent, but otherwise, but when you need the gear!

It seems that the price only increased a little, since I last checked in April! And I wasn't really waiting for the new models (unless they have something INCREDIBLY awesome :P ), just hoping the price would drop slightly when it's announced, but it seems that it has already dropped.. only not here ![]() *loud sigh* |

i am in the same boat... trying to decide to pull the trigger shortly or wait a little longer.
the release wont be for at least another month to three... but... its all rumors now

Talked to some guys in stores here, and they told me the following:
1) The price raised a bit because of lower stock levels in Europe, following some production problems. So this is basically a supply/demand issue. 2) Overall, the price has dropped for the D90 (as well as other cams), esp since it was released. When the new model will be released, it will have the old, high price of the D90, but the current models will not drop the price. So, the baseline is: if you want to buy a camera, and you know what model you want - go get it. If you want to wait until the new models are released, and weight the new functionality vs current models, then you'll be waiting for them anyway :P But there's no price drop, as far as I can see
