Default d90 & mb-d80 question

when i try to use the d80 battery pack, with the lithium ion batteries (either one or two), the camera does not recognize a charge (it won't even turn on). i know both lithium batteries are fully charged since i can insert each one individually into the camera and the battery indicator is full.

but ... if i use the d80 with the AA battery pack, it works fine. i already went into the menu system and confirmed the d90 is recognizing the correct battery type. i also called nikon, but the phone rep was clearly not familiar with what i was talking about (kept putting me on hold) and finally just told me to send it in.

i'm wondering if anybody here has any guesses? thanks!

btw, great site ... i just got my d90 and am really just now learning the basics ... a lot due to this site!

Try switching which side you have the batteries on. So, say, put a dot on one with a permanent marker, try it in the left slot with the other battery in, and if that works, yay. If it doesn't, try it reversing the batteries (e.g. the one with the dot on the right instead). I've found that my camera gets a bit finicky if I accidentally put them in the "wrong" order. Also make sure things are put together tightly.

Hmm, then I'm out of ideas. The battery grip does seem to be a bit finicky at times...

But, that said, I do recall reading a thread on Flickr about it having some issues that can be solved by... wait for it... cardboard. Flickr: Discussing Issue with MB-D80 in Nikon D90 // New assignments available //

Maybe one of the solutions in that thread will help. Though I'd personally be a bit wary about bending one of the pins like is suggested in there as well.

I know, mine either I figure if you have to start bending breakable parts, that's when a return wins out
