Default which lens to buy (Nikon only)

hi,

I own Nikon D-90 and the gears I have are:

1---18-105 mm lens
2---35 mm 1.8f lens
3---SB-600 external flash.

I am interested ONLY in portrait, landscape and sometimes wedding photography.

Please advise what is the other lens I should have in my bag to suite my shots as mentioned above.

As others, I like to own best quality lens and quality pictures.

I am planning to buy AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II is this a good choice to suite my shots.

Please advise. I want to buy Nikon gear only

thank you

Dont bother with the 18-200

Take the $800, buy another flash (SB-600) and 2 lightstands and modifiers. That should only take about half of that chunk of money.

Take the rest and look at a good solid tripod.

The flashes and stands will be good for portraits and wedding stuff, and the tripod for landscape.

"I am interested ONLY in portrait, landscape and sometimes wedding photography."
Your best bet is the Nikon 17-55 F2.8. Once you use it you will seldom take it off your camera.
That's just my opinion but I know others will say the same thing.

the 17-55 would be a great choice for a crop body (D90)
The 24-70 if you are thinking of upgrading to a FF body eventually, and you probably should for serious Landscape/Portraiture.

The 18-200 is a great lens FOR ITS PURPOSE. It is a general walk around lens, I use mine when I have no idea what I plan to take pictures of. While you can take good pictures with it, it is not a super sharp lens does not fall into your "I like to own the best quality lens" category. There is no one lens to do portait, landscape and weddings. Portrait work typically requires something in the 70 to 120mm range. If you want a good prime in that range the Nikon 85 or 105 might fit your bill. The 70-20 f/2.8 AF-S VR could meet that bill and might be useful for weddings as well. You really need to be more spcific in what you want.

Then I suggest you forget buying "Nikon only" and look at the better spec lenses from other makers. A Sigma or Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 will be a much better lens for your purposes (and better image quality) than the Nikon 18-200 and it fit's your budget.

Or save your pennies...almost nothing from Nikon that is "best quality" can be had for less than $1k.
