Default The perfect [cheap] D90 setup

BUDGET $1600usd

I love to shoot architecture and low light

What would be your recommendations.

I was thinking something along the line of:

D90
18-55mm
50mm f1.8
Remote shutter.
Maybe an external flash.

What do you think?

Why bother with the flash? Or the zoom for that matter? If your goal is a wide angle of view, then you could just stitch instead. And why no tripod?

Body + prime + tripod + software.

I agree that if you're looking to shoot architecture, then unless you're going for some arty light-effects as part of your low light shots, you don't need the flash - get a tripod and you can bracket your exposures and get some neat HDR effects if you have the right software.

I think it is worth keeping a zoom in the bag, especially if it's the 18-55 VR kit lens because this is a lovely lens.

Based upon your flickr I'd suggest consider adding a longer macro... maybe one of the sigma f/2.8's (105mm/150mm). A sharp fast prime macro is good for a lot more than just macro work.
If the 18-55 is not the VR kit lens, then skip it...actually, I would consider skipping it and getting a Sigma 10-20 or the 24-70 f/2.8 (or buy both and skip the macro)

d90 body- $850
50mm- $120
105mm- $450
10-20mm/ 24-70 f/2.8- ~$500
remote- $15

Buy used and you'll come in well under budget.
