Default D40 Won't Power Up

How's this for a worst-case scenario: You're going on vacation in Europe- seeing (in order) Venezia, Barcelona, Naples, Roma, Firenze/Pisa, Nice, and Marseilles, and on the very first day of zero flying, your dSLR just wont turn on. (HELP!)

I've tried a soft reset (two green-marked buttons), a hard reset (the button inside the USB/Video out area), different batteries (both charged), and I'm still in square one. I've only had 23150 actuations (as of July 20), and if I remember correctly, the shutter's rated for 50k, but that really isn't my problem, is it?

Also, FWIW, the green light does blink once when I insert the SD card.

Also, I just tried another hard reset and this time the screen turned on a second- and by a second, I mean less than a second. As in, I saw the Info screen for maybe a tenth of a second, after which point the screen shut off and I was back in square one.

Get thee to a camera store and get a new body. You wont be able to fix this while youre traveling and each day you're without a camera, youre without pictures. If you do get the D40 fixed, you can always sell it or the newer body when you get home.

ive got my iPhone running for the time being- nice wideangle and lovely 2mp. Also, I may start commandeering my old p&s (now my mom's). Still, I'd very much like to have a dSLR to run. Buying one here isn't really an option (too many reasons to bother listing).
