Default d3000 mirror lock up

So...like everyone, I want nice sharp pictures. I heard, or dreamed, that if you lock up the mirror when taking longer exposure shots it help to reduce camera vibration. Is this true?

Yes, it will prevent mirror slap as it rises. Lots of people use it for long exposure. the d3000 does not have mirror lock up. My camera has exposure delay, which raises the mirror and then takes the images a few seconds later to prevent mirror slap. I am not sure if you have that feature, but check the manual.

The D300 is the lowest on the totem pole with the M-Up mode.

Yes, it is for cleaning only, not shooting

Exactly. If you look in the menu, the item for that particular function is actually called "mirror lockup for cleaning". It locks the mirror up and turns the power off to allow you to clean the sensor from dust or other contaminants. It will NOT allow you to shoot.

The D5000 has exposure delay mode like scootermcq's D90. As the D3000 is pretty similar it might also have it. MENU> Custom Setting Menu > D - Shooting/display > D5 Exposure delay mode.

Actually, if you want MLU, you need a D300. Or a Canon XS [ducks].
