Default New D90 Owner

I purchased a D90 today and joined the Nikon legions.

After being bitten by the bug, I purchased a Sony a330 thinking that an entry-level camera would be good enough for me. I guess I didn't count on loving this hobby so much and it didn't take long for me to realize the limitations of the Sony.

I can't wait for the battery to finish charging so I can get out there and run it down again!

Congrats. D90 is an awesome tool for serious photographers like you. Have fun & do post your first few pics in this thread.

congrats! its a helluva camera. If I'd done a bit more research when I got my D40 (and learned the D90 was coming out just 2 months later), I'd have it. hohum. (D40 v. D80: D40 wins hands down- imho)

As my first post on this forums, I want to congratulate you on joining the ever-expanding group of Nikon users. I also have a D90 and can't say enough positive things about it. Good choice =)

ehh- it has some things that would've been nice (like the focus motor), but for the 400ish price difference, the D40 is much more capable.

how can something that has more stuff missing be more capable?

the lowest entry level camera cannot be more capable than the upper-limit of amateur equipment.

EG, built in commander with the Pop-up flash, focus motor, dual command dials, higher frame rate, and pixel count. 11 focus points (as opposed to three), Kelvin Scale........................and the list gets longer

read it in context. The D80 cost (past tense- as in when I was in the market) twice as much, but you dont get twice as much. More bang for the buck, more value, more capabale for the price, what have you.

theres less bang for buck seeing as its missing so much, and you're still paying $xxx for a glorified bridge camera.

the pop-up commander is a valuable little piece of kit.
focus motor means you can buy cheap old 35mm film glass and save $$$ in not being forced into AF-S lenses.
All but one of my lenses would not focus on a D40, so the slightly higher initial outlay means i save $$$ in the longrun on lenses and additonal equipment like triggers etc etc.

US$400 (or whatever the difference is) is not much considering how much it saves you later, not to mention the drastic increase in "useability" & speed.
