The 50D also has this. Large wheel by thumb to switch aperture and the small wheel on top for shutter speed (in manual mode that is).

Honestly, you're comparing apples and oranges here. I know because I went through the same comparison about 6 months ago. The 50D is a LOT more camera than the D90. Not saying the D90 is a bad camera, in fact, it's quite a great camera and, had I not switched to Canon, I'd be shooting one now.

However, the 50D is much closer to pro-level than the D90 (although it's still not a full pro body). It has some weather protection, faster fps, much easier to access settings (rarely do I need the menus), heavier/stronger body, etc.

Of course, the D90 does video and the 50D does not. I wasn't interested in video so this didn't bother me. The D90 is an excellent camera. I have nothing bad to say about it. I'm not unhappy with my decision to get a 50D though.

You can't really go wrong with either body to be quite honest. You will, however, get more bang for your buck with the 50D than with the D90 though.

Oh, I dunno. I think the bang's pretty close, given that you pay more bucks for the 50D. But yes, the 50D is higher-tiered than the D90. Magnesium body vs. plastic body and autofocus microadjust for starters. OTOH, it's not like you get a wireless flash master in the 50D's popup.

But in my weird reasoning, the 50D's between the D90 and the D300s, not a direct head-to-head "opposite number" to either.

I agree with you 100% on this one. It's got more than the D90 but not as much as the D300s. Either way, both bodies are excellent (imo) and I don't think the op would go wrong with either unless they needed some of the extra things on a 50D.

There are a lot of things I need to consider... I mean, since this will be my FIRST dslr, and it's something I've been saving for quite sometime (this kind of equipment is really expensive over here), I really want to get the best.

Nikon D90 Compared to Canon EOS 50D and D80, D300

Here it is a good chart, D80, D90, D300 and 50D. It's obvious that the 50D aims at the D90.

This is gonna be a close call.

I would like to know, from some one who has used both bodies (D90 and 50D), wich viewfinder is the best??

And to all of you, which body is a better investment (since the D90 has been around for a wile)??

Not to me. But hey, different squids for different kids.

You do realize you've pretty much just priced out nearly everyone on this board, right? It's a rare, rare shooter who can afford to shoot both systems.

Neither. Camera bodies aren't "investments". They depreciate from the day they're introduced (well, assuming it's not a Panasonic in short supply). Their prices drop like stones from the day they're introduced, and just don't stop. Within a year, a brand-new one on a store shelf will have lost anywhere from $100-$200 in value. Getting a better model just means you get more features and better usability. It rarely means you keep it longer. This is like computer equipment. How long do you keep a computer? A cellphone? Did paying for a "better" model mean you kept it longer?

And both the D90 and 50D are long in the tooth and rumored to have an upgrade this fall.

I'll have to disagree with you here.

For example, my computer, I bought it top of the line some years ago and it might no longer be the fastest anymore, but it's still a decent computer for the current standars.

Some years ago, we used to get giant leaps regarding technology in very short periods of time, now days a gadget (such as a camera) will get mere "improvements", but not a whole new generation. The D90 has drop only 100 bucks since it was introduced almost 3 years ago, that's not a lot. We have a reach a point of "stability" regarding new technology... That's normal. The D3 was the first FX sensor on 2007 and it's still the best for low light photography, even with the D3X and the D3S flying around.

But that's off topic...

I'm not looking for somebody who has own both cameras, I never said that, just somebody who has tried'em, use'em... whatever... somebody who has actually looked trough both viewfinders with 100% working cameras.

Just a simple question... which viewfinder is better???

Honestly, I've shot both and can't say either viewfinder is better. I didn't notice anything lacking in either of them. The viewfinder on the 7D though, that's a different story...

wrong and wrong. D3s is much better in low light than the D3. ISO102k. k as in thousand.

Also, there were 7 dSLRs before the D3 that were full frame.
