Default What the freak????

So I finally save up enough cash to get a D90. Now I get the efff error code, kinda like apt ring is unlocked. I'm shooting kit 18-205 lens, so ring doesn't move. The release button clicks, then shutter starts to close then it just locks up. Other times the green LED on the back (SD card in use) button stays on and even after I turn the camera off, wait 4-5 mins it still stays on. The only way I found to fix that one is remove the battery.

Has anyone experienced issues like these. Any suggestions? I have a strong urge to box up the camera & send it back. Fortunately for me I purchased it at B&H and have a pretty decent warranty.

Thanks for the help.

Assuming you just got it, I'd send it back in a heartbeat.

error:
what error are you getting "fEE" or something else?
shutter open:
If, say, your lens cap was on or the lens stopped down in a dark room, the shutter delay could be an extented exposure and not something "wrong".
green light:
The green light will stay on after you shut off your camera. Especially if you are shooting in raw or doing burst exposures or have a pathically slow sd card...although 4-5 minutes seems a like a long time, if it is turning off when it is done coping the buffer to the card I am not sure anything is wrong.

Ok just tried it again, and I was in the Auto No Flash mode. I have a new born and the flash isn't good for his eyes. The shutter opened and eventually closed but I am getting a f - - error now. when I dress the shutter release button. I try turning the camera off & on. Nothing.

Finally after leaving the camera off, I take another picture and get the " E r r " message now. And now the Green LED (SD card in use) light is on. When I turn the camera off the Upper Display stays on and also shows a CHA error code along with the E r r .... It's been 5 + mins now & the LED is still on. The only way I know how to turn it off is remove the battery.

First thing I'll try is a different SD card, I have an Extreme III I'll try when I get home from the hospital. I know the battery is fully charged but don't have a way of testing it to see if it is faulty.

Thanks again!

"F--" is what you get when the lens isnt attached, or the camera cant pick-up that the lens is connected.
you can clean the connections with a pencil eraser.. that might help.

have you tried another lens?

check that the lens is mounted properly (Ie that it is twisted all the way in, and that the contacts are clean) Also make sure to update to the latest version of the camera firmware.

I assume you are not using a lens with an aperture ring. If you are - set the aperture on the ring to f/22 (or smallest aperture) If there is, no aperture ring, it is definitely a connection error between lens and camera - and as above - it`s either not seated correctly, or you got really unlucky and have a defect.
