I just bought a Nikon D5000 and I'm taking pictures better than I ever imagined I could. However, I'm liking some of the D90 features, so I'm considering adding a refurbished D90 body to my kit. That's so hard on the budget.

I actually ended up buying a refurbished D90 and really like it. I think it was definitely worth it just for the autofocus. I tried a friend's old non-autofocusing lens and it was a pain to use!

Just about to take delivery of 1st DSLR. Nikon D5000 with 18-55VR and 55-200VR kit lens.

screw the book. The book's meant to help find answers to questions, not teach you. Here's what you do instead:

1) open box
2) find battery and charger
3) introduce battery+charger to the wall
4) twiddle your thumbs, tap your fingers, pace back and forth, et al.
5) go out and shoot.

Read the manual. Please. PLEASE. It wont teach you how to take photos, but it'll teach you how to use the camera. RTFM!

if you dont read the manual, you will miss feautures you never knew existed... oh, and will misunderstand what many numbers, dots and blinking thingy's are trying to tell you.
