Default D90 lens hood - how to remove?

Yeah, I know, probably a stupid question. Here's the thing...

I put the lens hood on the camera today, first time. It slipped on fine, made those snapping noises as it fell into place.

Now, I'm trying to see how to remove the thing, and the lens hood does. not. move. In any direction. I do not want to force things and risk breaking anything.

So, you know, help?

It comes off the same way it went on, just backwards. You put the hood on the LENS or the CAMERA?

It may be a little stiff, especially if it doesnt go on very often. just make sure you're not turning the lens barrel, but give it some elbow grease. Also make sure it's on straight, not crooked.

I put it on the lens. Did I say camera? Oh, so I did. I consider the camera body + lens = camera.

It's not crooked. It's perfectly straight.

Yeah, I expected it would have to be removed the opposite way it went on. But it just doesn't move. At all. When I try to remove it, holding the lens firmly in place, it has zero give. It's firmly locked on or something. No moving in any direction.

I'll have to apply more elbow grease when I'm feeling a bit less, ah, clumsy.

Osmosis, we don't have any camera stores here. No, really, we don't. There's one store listed on the Nikon list of international resellers, but they don't exist anymore.

The nearest store would probably be in India, and I really don't feel like paying airfare and everything else just for this.

Almond, excellent suggestion. Thanks!

Sometimes I've found that when a lens hood is being difficult I give it a quick twist to try to get it off (obviously make sure you're twisting it the right way). It seems to work better for me and it usually overcomes the problem of the lens moving while trying to get the hood off. It might just be that since this is the first time you've used the lens hood it's just a little stiff.

Thanks, Nicole. I'll give that a try.

I'm really really really hoping it'll loosen up.

Some of the hoods have a little button to release them?

I've looked, and there's no button release that I can find. Ah well.

Day three and I finally got it off using Nicole's suggestion. Thanks, Nicole.

And seriously, what a pain in the butt.
