300 similar enough to a 700?

I've been contacted to do a wedding. I have not said yes or no. We are simply talking. I am looking into a renting a 700. My 300 is acting up and I haven't sent it away yet and have a few workshops and shoots lined up and can't see the time to do so being available until late july.

Is the 300 and 700 enough alike that I am not going to feel super intimidated when I get it into my hands? I know the spec differences . When I made the jump from 60 to 300 it took much more getting to know time than I anticipated. Or would you advise I just rent another 300 for comfort reasons?

I can't say for sure, but I've gotten the feeling (multiple times) that the two are pretty much the same except that the D700 is full frame- physical controls (buttons and switches) all seem to be in the same positions (small movements here and there). wait for someone with more hands on experience to confirm, but it seems similar enough

Looking at the back I'd say it's damn near identical, and you should have no problem with the learning curve

The one problem you have is you won't have the right "feel" for your lenses since you are used to the way the work on a DX body. Why not rent a 300?

THe 700 controls are essentially identical to the 300. The body is the same except for the top-plate, and that's only because of the larger prism housing.
