For the same price go for the newer. If you can get a better price on the D300 and don't need video that might be a better option.

You wont be able to find the D300 new: only the D300s.

If you can get them for the same price I'd go for the D300s. They're essentially the same camera, though the D300s has video and other firmware updates.

I'd be suspicious of any place selling them for the same price though. There's a $400 to $500 difference in price between these two cameras at most shops. I'd be worried that the D300 price was jacked up to encourage people to by the "same price" newer model, or the S was marked too low to be true. But that's speculation on my part, not knowing anything about where you're buying.

i have never seen these cameras similar priced it makes no sense unless they are both second hand.
