Default D700 With A Tmeron XR Di 28 to 300

I have a D700 body with a Tameron 28 to 300 full frame lens. The quality of the pictures is great but quite frequently the auto focus stops working. At that point my only option is to switch to manual focus which of course takes time and most time results in a loss of picture opp. To add insult to injury the auto focus will just start working.

Any suggestions, ideas etc? At this point I will even consider another lens. I do not have this problem with the Nikon DX lenses.

Thanks for your help.

Is that f/6.3 on the long end? The D700 is rated to f/5.6.

How old is the lens, as well? Some 3rd party lenses may need to have their electronics replaced to work with more modern cameras.

The camera and the lens were bought together and are about a year old.

This focus problem occurs over the entire range of the zoom on the lens.

Thanks for the reply's.

Does the camera have the same focus issue with other lenses? If so, then its a camera problem. If not, it's the lens.
