As a rule, cameras and water don't mix. The damage even a little water can do is profound. However, before you give up hope let me make a suggestion. I once had an iPod go through our washing machine. We have one of those high-efficiency models that don't use much water so it didn't get terribly wet but it cleary wasn't working when it came out. In our cupboard we had a large container of rice so I plunged the iPod into the rice, covered it and left it for a couple of days. (Rice is a dessicant and will quickly absorb the moisture out of most anything.) Now I can't make any promises, but there is a slim chance that you may have similar success with your camera. It's worth a try.

You got to get that water out of there fast. I would recommend the rice method but additionally would also put the camera in a very warm place to hurry evaporation. I dropped my point and shoot in water once. Put it on the dash of my car in the sun for two days with the lens extended, batteries out, sd card out...basicallly any opening the camera had, I opened. It worked...I'm still using the camera! Good luck!

Generally, yeah, you want to avoid turning it on before it's dried out to avoid zapping something by shorting. But there may still be hope. Just let it dry out.
I had a cellphone go through the wash, and I tried turning it on while it was still wet and the display was garbage. I took the battery out, left it alone for two or three days, and now it works. Not sure I'd recommend baking it on the car dash. I'd go with a hair dryer, myself.

.... and i am just waiting for it !!!! Well i have done as u all have kindly suggested Wrapped the poor camera in a plastic bag filled with rice with all possible places open and placed that bag in another black bag (To draw max sun heat) and has placed it on the dash board of my car and has very aptly parked the car on the road ensuring that wind shield faces the sun after few hours i will change the direction of the car (As i can not readjust location of Sun) and there after i am praying.
