Talking First DSLR?

Hey Guys, Im looking to buy my first DSLR and i've got my eyes on a Nikon D5000. any better cameras out there for a beginner photographer?

There are some Canon models that will fit in the price range and the Pentax K-x. You should also have a look at the Sony Alpha 500 or 550 which feature the best liveview and an in body image stabilisation (the Pentax has this too).

The Nikon D5000 has one disadvantage: It has no AF motor which limits the lens choice.

About the lense set back on the d5000 that doesn't really bother me as i don't have that much money to throw around so the stock lens will do for a couple of years.
