Default which wide angle lens to buy? Please help.

My friend would like to hire me to shoot his industrial rigs. He works with commercial wells and would like to feature his 150 foot rig on his company's business card and as office art. Until now, I've only shot portraits, so I was really hesitant to sign up for this new style. But then, the deal got really sweet-- he offered to buy me a new wide angle lens.

So here's the question... which wide angle lens should I buy? I have a Nikon D90. I'm open to all recommendations, but my guess is that he may be budget-minded, so low-cost options are much appreciated. Thanks for the help

OK, I'm not going to be that helpful, maybe...

I had the Canon 10-22mm ef-s lens and it was amazing, a brilliant, sharp and well priced lens - I have NO idea why I sold it now... That said, tomorrow I take delivery of a Sigma 8-16mm lens, the widest zoom available - not sure what it's going to be like, yet, but I will be able to tell you in a couple of days if that helps. --Welcome to dPS!

I quite like the Sigma 10-20mm (I'm not trading it in for the 8-16mm any time soon ) I have the older model, the f/4-5.6 version. It's definitely wide, but whether or not it will get what you're looking for is another story because the distortion is pretty obvious. So it's a question of whether or not that kind of distortion is ok or not when it comes to making the photo he wants.

consider this another vote for the sigma 10-20. Only difference is I have the 3.5 which I bought as an upgrade to the 4-5.6 because I have been using it in some lower light situations and LOVE the lens over all.

I've been using the Nikon 10-24 f/3.5-4.5 and am smitten by it. Sharp with plenty of contrast, super wide and great nikon quality.
