Default 35mm f/1.8G Vs 50mm f/1.8D

Hello Friends

I was comparing 2 very good nikkor lenses. ie:

AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G Or AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D

I would like to know your views and feedback on these cameras. I would like to know below Questions:
1. Of the 2 lens, which one you will keep in ur gear box and why ?
2. For what type of photography will you used these lenses ?

Thanks Snappers
Rohan

Well, the 50mm f/1.8D lens wont autofocus on your D5000. So that may make/break your decision right there.

I use the 50mm because it autofocuses on my D80. Its a bit long for indoors, but its great outdoors for portraits and low-light shooting.

I had the 50mm for about 3 months i used it on my D60, on DX body i found it a little awkward(75mm effective), more over it didn't AF on D60(likewise it will not AF on D5000) due to which i could only shoot still subject where as i like to have an all rounder lens most of the time(like my Tamron 18-270). so finally i sold it and getting a 35mm sometime next month which is the prefered normal lens for DX. If you still want a 50mm you can always buy it later on as its gonna be ther in the market for years to come and still cost around $100. So for a D5000 dont thnk further and get a 35mm, if you had a pro body you could still have bought a 50mm

I bought the 35mm last year (exactly a year ago!) and once I put it on my camera, well, I rarely take it off save to borrow a 70-300mm lens. It's the perfect distance for me but if you're going to be taking portraits the 50mm would be better. 35mm does not allow for a lot of distance between you and your subject so they better be at ease in front of a camera! However, I do enjoy the versatility of the 35mm as I don't have to walk as far back as I would with a 50mm with inanimate objects. It really depends on you and what you're using it for. I love this lens but I will likely be getting the 85mm just to give myself a lot of space between the people I'm shooting.

coombzy : Thanks, so what all you photography with your 35mm

As I have D5000, I will be going for 35mm, but still I just wanted to review the diff.

Will 35mm be good for indoor, night photography, wedding and landscapes during dawn?

Skip the 50mm, I know others like it because it is sharp - but it not a great focal length on on DX camera. Have you considered the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 HSM? I picked up a used one for under $300 and love it. Very sharp lens and slightly wider.

Super sharp with excellent Bokeh. Generally I like Nikon glass better, as you can see from my inventory of glass - but I like this one as well as my Sigma 10-20mm.

Not sure what you mean by limitation. I use it mostly for indoor shots when I don't want (or can't use) flash. F/1.4 is really amazing.
