Dear Photographers
I always has this thinking, if I for any 3rd party Lense then which one should I go. Many said For tele use Tamaron and some said, Use Sigma for ultrawide. I am all confused. Photographer please throw some light on which is better and how can it be compared with nikkor lenses. I use a Nikon D5000 and searching for two best lenes ie: 1. Tele Lense = ex: Tamaron 70 - 300 mm 2. Ultra Wide = Sigma 10-24mm Is there any alternative for nikkor 18-200mm and 10-24mm ? Cheers Rohan

Third party lenses are generally not as good as their Nikon counterparts, though there are some exceptions.
FOr isntance, in the ultra-wide sector, both Tokina and Sigma are considered very good (Tokina 11-16 and Sigma 10-20). Sigma also has two great primes: the 35/1.4 and 50/1.4. The new 85/1.4 probably wont be too far off either. That being said, there is a considerable number of lenses that arent great.

I just bought the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 and think it is going to do a great job. I borrowed one a few times before making my decision. I shoot a D5000 as well and it is hard to find a good lense, other than Nikon, that will AF. Not to mention the huge price difference. It is a bit heavy but it will be on a tripod.
