Default ANYONE !! who owns a Nikkor AF-S 50mm 1.4G

Hi. been a while since i've posted anything on here, anyway

I have a slight problem... about 4 months ago i purchused a new lens (50mm 1.4) and i couldn't use it straight away cause i had sent my camera away and one thing led to another and i didn't get the camera back for almost 3 months. and first thing i did when i got home with it was mount my nifty fifity. and found that the focusing was faulty. so i took it back and ask for a replacement and they shop said they didn't have any others in stock so they would send my Lens back to Nikon and get a replacement. and now (a month later) i get a lens back.. and same thing..

Now i was wondering if anyone else owns this lens and has similar problems..

it seems to focus fine in Auto.. but when you want to manual focus.. it just doesn't work. like you rotate the focus ring and it moves the lens elements a tiny bit, but thats all. you can keep turing the ring all day and it wont move the focus anymore.. but it back into Auto and bam it work.. back into manual... and it doesn't work.. Also.. it is REALLY REALLY Slow to focus.. like REALLY slow..

does anyone know anything about this.. or am i being ripped here.?

THe AF-S ring will continue turning past infinity and past the MFD. That's normal.

You should be able to focus completely. Tried turning it both ways? See a difference? What distance were your targets at?

The 50/1.4 G is known as a slower-focusing lens, even though it has AF-S. This is for precision.

yeah. i know the ring will keep turning once you hit the stoppers at each end... its just making the lens hit the stoppers.. like you keep turning the ring and it will just stay sitting at say 0.6m and no matter how long you turn it for. it just wont reach 0.45m and it doesn't matter if the lens is on camera, off camera, camera is turned on, its on M/A or M or whatever..

How-ever.. now i am pretty darn sure that the "replacement" lens is the exact same lens i sent them... i have kinda looked at the way the things are in the box.. and they are EXACTLY as i left themm.. so.. i think i still have the same dodgy lens.. i'm assuming its just the one F.. Up lens..

Oh.. so it is a Slow Focusing lens ? thats not good... i have used the 50mm 1.8 and that thing was wicked fast at focusing.. even up on the dance floor at a school social..

If you suspect you got the same lens you asked them to send out, you should return to where you got it from and speak with someone above whoever you spoke to.

The 50/1.4G is a slowER focusing lens. It's not as snappy then most OTHER AF-S lenses, because it's geared for precision.

Default Nikkor AF-S 50MM 1.4G knocking/clunking sound

Nightmare, I bought the lens but never used it. Just decided to give it a go only to find that the manual focus ring is knocking and clicking as its rotated but the auto focus works perfect. Has anyone out there got any ideas whats up as Nikon don't want to know!

Cheers

Modern AF systems are pretty darn good, which reduces the need for MF in many circumstances.

The slower ring turning is actually what makes it more precise. It makes it easier to make very small adjustments, because you don't have to worry about turning it 2mm and totally blowing your focus.

You must've missed the post dates on those posts up there.
