Also i keep hearing about "Full Frame " I think i have an idea what you all mean, and is this only created with a Kit lens to the camera ?? I am still learning and dont think will ever stop learning, and all information i can try and store in my little brain will be worth it ![]() I want to get things right with what equipment i have and wont be investing in a new camera yet. Lens that i have are 18-155 kit lens... 55-200 kit lens.. then i got a got a 18-105mm now bought a 18-200mm. Should i keep them all ?? Thank you for taking time to read and any advice is really welcomed. |

oooh boy.
The 18-200 lens is referred to as a "vacation lens" for a reason: it's great for a single-lens, lightweight and small size travel solution, or for general family snaps, but for anything more demanding, I can't say that it should be used for weddings or anything exacting. Full-frame refers to the sensor, and your D60 does NOT have it. THe D60 uses a smaller, APS-C sized sensor that measures 24mm wide and 18mm high. This is for several reasons, the first of which is size, the second cost. Full-frame sensors are 36mm wide and 24mm high (ie twice the size): it's essentially the same as a frame of 35mm sized film. These sensors are only available in the professional bodies (D700, D3 series) and are expensive. The body is much more expensive and the lenses needed for it are also more expensive. The advantages of full-frame are simple: lower pixel density. Since the sensor is twice the size but the resolution is (in most cases) the same, each pixel is also twice the size. This means that shooting in low-light and at high ISO is easy and still looks good. Try going beyond 3200 with your D60 (hint: you cant). If you had the 18-55 and 55-200, I dont see why you would have an 18-105 as well, and the addition of the 18-200 is utterly baffling. None of these lenses is particularly well suited to wedding or portrait photography: they;re all slow (small aperture) and variable aperture lenses in the consumer level. Fine for general snaps, but not for anything more exacting. Frankly, I dont think youre ready for weddings, and if youve done them already, then all the power to you. I just wouldnt recommend you take them on. There's more to photography than gear, especially when it comes to weddings and portraits. Take your time and LEARN before you do much else.

Hi Niyra,
Now I am now expert on wedding photography but from what I've picked up in my photography journey so far I'm guessing you meant an 18-55mm lens as your first lens in that post... I'm hoping so because otherwise you have 4 very similar lenses unless they all had a different aperture range, which I'm guessing isn't true as you said they were kit lenses... Now, the newest lens you have bought would be a great investment as long as it had an aperture of atleast f/2.8. If this is not that case then I suggest you sell 2 of your lenses to buy one (probably the 18-55 and 55-200, as these focal lenghts are both covered by your new 18-200mm lens) and invest in something a little bit more high powered for weddings =) This will allow you to get better images in places such as churches, chapels and low light reception centres. Hope this helps!! =)

Hi there,
Thank you for advice it really helps... I have been shooting for a year now and did my first Wedding in last October, it went really well, and I also have another in August. I am still learning as I said I think more than any thing I don’t quite understand my gear, I know its not all about gear... My work is on face book if you care to have a look on Niyra Photography I have put some things up it would be nice if you can take time and have a peak ![]() The lens is a 18-55mm sorry. I think I could sell the 2 lens as they are in the 18-200mm, but will see I personally liked the 18-200mm and it worked really well. I will keep on learning but practice makes perfect i guess and I know I wouldn't risk messing someone’s special day!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/4039509...ted=4466510851 http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/...6558203?ref=ts thank

Generally Pro and anyone who are serious about good images don't use 18-200 to shoot weddings. Think f/2.8 or faster lenses.
Most of us follow good business ethics that requires us to have adequate equipment (with backups) and skill that can handle most if not all situations. Such prerequisites prevent the clients from receiving products and services below their expectations and money worth. Quote:

I appreciate your advice, thank you very much, ok I know that I may not have the right lens but I feel I have the eye for the work, and I am very am very passionate about what I do…
I hope you may have had a chance to see my work I have taken these shots with the equipment that I have. I have seen Photographers shoot a Wedding with a 18-55mm only and got great results, maybe you would want to their work ?? I will take advice and I am open to any criticism it all make ones better for the future , all I am going to say is that I will never give in and i won't disregard anyone advice ! thak you all. |
