Default Help with D80 exposure compensation

I seem to have changed a setting and am no longer able to adjust my exposure compensation. When I press my exposure compensation button (the +/- button) while in either M, A, S, P mode, it thinks that I am pressing the metering mode button. When I press down the metering mode button it performs its normal function. Essentially, I have 2 meter mode buttons and no exposure compensation button.

I set it to -.7 the last time I was able to adjust it.

Have you tried resetting the camera yet?

You can adjust it by going through the shooting menu.

Yes, but no luck. I try the 2 button reset method, but do not see any change, so I reset through the Custom Setting Menu.

Update: I noticed that when I don't have a lens on the body and it is on, the +/- button performs correctly, but when I attach the lens, it controls meter mode. Any ideas?
