Default New Lens Advice

I am looking to buy a new lens to replace my 18-55 kit lens. I've been researching the Nikon 16-85 mm and I like everything it has to offer for the kind of photograhy I'm interested in. I was hoping that I could get some opinions on this lens and see if anyone has heard anything about this lens. It costs a little over $600.00. Thanks.

I own that lens & it is a nice lens for outdoors. It's a little slow for flashless indoor shots. Here's a couple of samples. The colors seem a little more saturated than my Nikkor 18-200mm

the 16-85 doesn't cover any range that your (kit lens+feet) don't already cover. Are you just looking for a faster lens that covers the same range? For $300, you could get a 50mm and a 35mm, both f/1.8. The 35 won't get you a lot of the wider shots the 16-85 or 18-55 can, but you could always snap your 18-55 back on when you needed it.

Almond.Butterscotch, I draw your attention to the OP's first sentence.

Thanks for all the comments. The reviews I've read are mostly positive and this is really my first semi-expensive piece of glass. I do a lot of landscape and like the idea of the wide open end and the VR it has to offer. Thanks again!

If it's for landscape get the Tokina 11-16, or the 12-24 if you want to save a few bucks. Keep the 18-55, it is actually a very good lens.
