Default which one..lens ??

ok , i have the d300 and have 50 mm 1.4 and an 18-200mm lens. I need to add more to my collection.
My needs ar 1) to take nice sharp poics of newborns and 2) a lens that will suit my needs when shooting outdoor portraiture and at weddings when the light is not good

Money does not matter....please advice me on the BEST lens you would recommend

It depends on what you shoot most.

The 24-70 2.8 Is my most commonly used lens, but the 70-200 2.8 is excellent for portraits and a must for weddings. the 85 1.2 is also stunning but I would put the money towards one of the above if your just building your collection. Just my two cents though.

For weddings on a D300, I highly recommend the 24-70 2.8. If you were on a FF body, then the 70-200 would be a no-brainer. But on a crop body (particularly in smaller venues) the 70-200 would be too long for all around indoor shooting. (I have even found 24 a bit on the long side for some wide shots).

24-70 f/2.8 or 85 f/1.4 depending. First one if versatility matters most. Second if sharpness/speed/cost are more important.

yupp- the 24-70 and 70-200 f/2.8 are the 2 wedding lenses, and if you're on the cropped sensor, then the 24-70 is the one.

I'll second the 85 as an alternative though
