You could try the 35mm f/1.8 AF-S on your camera. It will auto focus, and it's around $200 instead of the 50mm f/1.4 AF-S, which is around $400-500.

The 50mm f/1.8 will do everything on your camera but autofocus. You'll still get a green dot in the viewfinder when your focus is "correct," though, so I'd still consider it.

I have the 35mm f/1.8, and while it almost never leaves the body anymore, I'll give you fair warning here that it does have chromatic aberration issues and not the best bokeh, but it's a pretty sweet gem regardless.

I to use both these len's, i ador the 35mm G however the 50mm f/1.8 is better for portraits as this is 50mm X 1.5 wich gives u something like 77-80mm perfit portraits, kid's love the idea of not having a lens shoved up there nose and not just that i think it's just a realy good len's

Ive used both the 35 and 50mm f/1.8 Both are great for low light and price. I ended up buying the 35mm for the autofocus. The 50mm put me into the corners of rooms at homes trying to get the shot. After using the 35 now that I own it, I think I would have been happy with either one. I find that I manual focus more often anyways. Both take great pictures for the price.
