I feel like all I do is ask for help, someday I'm going to be able to give some back, I hope.
Here is my dilemma. Oh, and its such a tough problem ![]() I just bought a D90 and I purchased the kit that included the 18-105 lens with the intention of selling it to my husbands buddy at work. After playing with it for a few minutes, taking a whopping 20 or so shots, my husband asks me if I like it. Well, I think I could like it, but I don't want to like it if I can't keep it, so he says I can keep it if I want. I can't decide if I want it or not. Did that make any sense at all? Hopefully you can understand what I'm trying to say. I currently have the kit 18-50 or whatever it is (haven't used it in ages that came with my D40) an 18-200 (its an off brand lens, and not awesome but adequate) and a 35mm prime. So, if you were me, would you keep the new lens, or sell it? Would it just be more fluff in the camera bag? Thanks in advance |

Keep the new lens: sell the others (except maybe the 35mm prime, depending on which one it is)

which one performs better to you. the 18-105 or 18-200. maybe for day trips, like to the zoo, i might keep the 18-200 just for the reach, BUT, if it's not awesome and you're not in love with it, toss it.
i would assume the kit lens might be a slightly better match for the camera.i'm sort of in the same boat and will perform some tests to see which one i like better between my olympus and sigma lens. i'm leaning toward the olympus lens though.

Okay, I think I've made up my mind, thanks for everyones input. I took the lens out today and played with it. I took about 40 shots, and it errored 4 times. That doesn't seem like too good of odds to me. So I think I'll just stick with what I have, and save some cash to purchase the 50mm prime (which is what I wanted over the 35mm, but thats a whole different can of worms.)
Thanks for all your input. |

If that's the attitude, though, I'd sell the lot of it and get something else. A 16-85 should be within budget, and that's a step up in image quality and build quality as well as being somewhat more versatile.
