Default why so over exposed?

I have a new camera (Nikon D3000), and in testing out the Aperture, Shutter, and Manual settings (even in P settings), I've noticed that the picture is really over exposed. I can have all the settings on the same the auto mode had (where the picture is correctly exposed), but the results are completely different. Is there something wrong with my camera? This is happening in daylight or with on-camera flash. Is there a setting I can search for that would remedy this problem?

Oh, I'm going to have to work on that. Will be back when I figure it all out. Thank you.

yup. more details...

also... i don't know your camera but maybe in "green mode" it ignores any exposure compensation but in the other modes it doesn't, and somehow you have you exposure comp cranked up...

It's probably your exposure compensation set to +1 or +2 or incorrect metering mode selected.

This kind of thing happened to me once, I had no idea what was going on but I went to reset all settings in the menu and that fixed it.

I couldn't copy the exif data, so this is what I gathered from it; hope it's enough.
Here are 2 pics at auto and at aperture priority. Settings are pretty close to each other.

exif data - auto mode
exposure time 1/200 sec
exposure bias 0EV
F number F 7.1
max aperture F 5.1
IsO 100
focal length 38mm
metering mode multi segment

exif data - aperture mode

exposure time; 1/160 sec
exposure bias -2 EV
F 5.1
ISO 100
38mm
multi segment

*Looks at the camera*

"Ah, there's your problem. See that little emblem on your camera? It says Nikon. Take that back down to the store and replace it with one that says Canon."

Oh, thank you for all your answers, thus far. I am going to have to study them!

exposure bias -2 EV

There is part of your problem. You are under exposing the images in aperture mode by 2 stops. Your metering mode looks good.
