Default Nikon lens with greater than x1 Macro?

Does anyone know of a Nikon (or other for USE on Nikon) lens that has better than a x1 macro capability? I'm using a 105mm f/2.8 micro now and can't seem the get the results I want. Canon apparently has a ~60 macro with up to x5 macro. Surely, Nikon had to come up with something to answer it, didn't they? Thanks for your help.

If you reverse a shorter lens on the front of a longer lens, the magnification you get is the focal length of the longer lens / the shorter one. For example, a 50mm lens reversed on a 100mm lens will result in 2x magnification. When you do this, focus both lenses to the same distance... infinity and infinity will result in the greatest working distance between you and the subject. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions.

You can go the reversing route or you can get extension tubes and use them on a macro lens.

I just got a reverse mount for nikon. This is just using my 55-200 which does not have a large enough aperture to do this properly, and I am going to be hitting the pawn shops to find a really old lens that will be cheap, but have a manual ring to adjust aperture.

Here is a picture of a dime, that at full resolution makes it about 12" big (so greater that 1:1)

10/4 That lens does not do the trick, but I was just trying out the mount. I now just have to find a lens with a 52 mm thread that has manual aperture (and large). I had to shoot that at ISO 1600 and removed some of the noise with ninja.... when I find one, I will repost a pic...

I picked up a Yashica 50mm f/2 lens at a pawn shop for $15.00 bucks, my reverse mount was $5 bucks off ebay. I don't even know what camera it is supposed to mount on, I just needed a 52mm filter thread. My "poor man's" macro investment is $20 bucks.

I shot this dime at f/4 1/500 iso100 with a daylight CFL clamp light illuminating it.

Please understand, I messed around for 3 minutes as I am out the door, but I just wanted to see if it works, so I know the picture is not the greatest. I will have to play a bit.

A Canadian Dime is 3/4" and this image is about 7.5" before cropping and resizing, so I am getting the magnification I want.
