Default I'm sorry if this is a stupid question..

This might be a really dumb question, but I've searched and searched and I can't find the answer I'm looking for. So I figured it'd be just easier to ask people with personal experience.

Let me explain my situation first. Currently, I have a Nikon D70 and it's not a bad camera but it does act up sometimes. I guess I'm just not very satisfied with the 6mp it gives me, so I was thinking about upgrading. I was hoping to be able to use the lenses I have now and save some money that way, but I'm not completely sure if they will actually work or not.

The first one is a Tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro, and the second on is a Tamron AF18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro (doesn't have the built in motor). I was thinking about getting a Nikon D5000 (once the price goes down a little or it's on sale), but I will consider something else if neither of those 2 lenses will work with it. I saw on one site it said "Compatable lenses: AF-S or AF-I: All functions supported. Type G or D AF NIKKOR without built-in autofocus motor: All functions except autofocus supported." so does that basically mean I can use them but I just wouldn't be able to have the camera auto focus for me and I'd have to do it myself every time? I wasn't sure if the fact that they're Tamron and not Nikkor would make a difference or if the fact that the 28-300mm has a built in motor means it would work perfectly fine.

Basically I'm just wondering if those lenses will work on the D5000 and if not what other camera will they work on (preferable with more mega pixels)?. I would really appreciate any kind of help or input. I just wanted to completely make sure before I went out and bought anything. Thank you in advance.

Take the lenses to a camera shop and try them on the various bodies you're considering.

I would imagine that if they work on your D70 that they would work on other Nikon DSLR's. Two of the lenses I have were purchased when I had my D70, used them on my D80 and still use them with my D300s.

Unless your lens have a built in focus motor, (nikon af-s or af-i) (sigma HSM) they will work execpt auto focus.

May want to look at a used d80 or d90

I completely forgot about going to the store to test them. I will definitely do that once I get a better idea of the ones I've narrowed it down to. If I can get a good deal on a D90 I would definitely like to have one of those. I didn't even think about a D80, but that wouldn't be a bad choice either. I looked it up and it says the D80 has a CCD sensor. Does that actually make a huuge difference or is it barely noticable?
