Default Opinions about Sigma 70-300mm

Hi,
I have Nikon D5000 and 18-55 mm kit lens. I want to add a telephoto zoom lens like Sigma 70-300mm to my kit. Its well within my budget. Just wanted to know what people think about that lens. Any other recommendations on other lenses within same price range and better quality are welcome.
Thanks

There is some info about that lens here. If you get it, make sure you get the APO version. I have the Canon mount version and I like it, for the price. It's heavy, tends to creep, it's a little slow to focus, but for less than $200 I can't complain too much. It's relatively sharp and comes in handy when I do need a good zoom. All of the animals in this set with the exception of the crowned crane were shot with this lens, all handheld, no tripod. Hope this helps.

@Susan: Thanks a lot for suggestions. True I don't have too much budget for getting a Nikkor with VR so I guess I will go with this one. I have got similar reviews on this lens on other forums as well. Really liked your photos

Please update this thread when you get it, if you go with the APO version. I cheaped out and got the non-apo version a few weeks ago. Interested to hear on how it is..

Be sure to check ANY lens you are planning to buy for your D5000 that those lenses have the AF motor within the lens itself. Nikon calls these lenses the AF-S series. Any Nikon or third party lens that's not classified as AF-S or doesn't have an AF motor within the lens WILL NOT AutoFocus on the D5000. Check the mount ring plate (the one that touches the camera body) and if there is a protruding screw driver-like shaft sticking out along the rim, it will NOT AutoFocus on the D5000.
Cheers!
