Talking Racing car

I have been taking some pictures of my sons cars to get some fun pictures. This one I took with my 50 mm where I attached a close-up lens +4. I was hoping to get a almost realistic picture by using a high DOF.

What do you think?
- is the DOF to extreme?
- any hints on getting some more realisme in the picture?

If you're looking for realism, then you need a MUCH longer depth of field. If, however, you are looking to make a kickass picture of a toy car, then you've succeeded!

100% agree

wider DOF if its being used as a product/advertising shot.
its still a nice shot, i'd tweak the WB a bit thom the paper is a little blue.. but not by much and up the exposure a bit to make the paper whiter/brighter
it will make the shot look more clinical/sterile

This pic reminds me of a scene in CSI, where the criminal recreate a criminal scene in miniature scale. The camera man did a good job in doing a close up on it.

I agree with the other, the DOF need to be wider, if you have some background instate of white paper, it may look more realistic.

Seen those model train set display on some of the toy shop? Try on that and see your pic will turn out realistic,

A narrow DoF is never going to make a toy look like the real thing, in fact quite the reverse is true. If you think about fake tilt/shift images they use blur to emulate a narrow DoF, making real scenes look like toys.

Can I ask what you used to google (tag lines)
My 11 year old son loves photography and would a kick out of doing this with his matchbox cars. I would love to show him a few samples to give him some ideas. Thanks!

Thanks so much! I bookmarked it to show him when he gets home from school. I know he is going to go GAGA nuts to try this. He might not have the same equipment (he has a sony point and shoot) but being 11 he can come up with some creative ways to overcome this
