Default Good lens for still life photography?

Hi all,

I'm a graphic designer and I am looking for a good Canon lens for still life photography. I will be using this lens to take photos of my graphic design portfolio pieces. I had my eyes on the Canon 100mm macro lens, but it seems a bit restrictive in terms of focal length. I still would want enough flexibility to take shots of the whole scene of my set up.

Any recommendations for lens based on my situation? Also, any suggestions for lighting kits?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I would say a wide angle lens, unless you are wanting very close shots of your work.

Canon 50mm macro and a tall tripod with diffuse daylight? Or maybe a couple of flashes with big softboxes (you might need stands for lights or flashes too).

Backgrounds?

@idcrewdawg: Yea, I still want the ability to capture close up shots of my pieces.

@daft_biker: After doing some research, a Canon 50mm macro seems a bit more appealing based on situation because it will provide more flexibility to capture a full scene. Any recommendations of flashes and light boxes?

Also, for backgrounds, I'll be using a white background more often than any other types.

Thanks for the relies!
