My buddy has a Nikon D90, and recently purchased the Sigma 105mm macro lens, he's very very happy with it, in fact he's pretty much ecstatic! Check out reviews here: dslrgear.com

A 50mm reversed on bellows or extension tubes is possibly your best bet..... Click here for some nice examples

For example at 1:1 the MP-E65mm wipes the floor with the other Canon macro lenses. At higher magnifications the MP-E does more than wipe the floor with extension tubes on a 'normal' macro lens.....it really is very good at what it does

I was amazed by the quality Canon MP-E65mm produced, it gives a very good color and contrast along with sharpness but since it has no auto focus, manual focusing requires a lot of effort and a very good eye sight.
It is also a bit heavy and can only be used for macro and i will not recommend it for beginners. Overall it is the best macro lens i have had till now.
