My buddy has a Nikon D90, and recently purchased the Sigma 105mm macro lens, he's very very happy with it, in fact he's pretty much ecstatic! Check out reviews here: dslrgear.com

Panasonic Lumix TZ-3 Yeah, I have optical image stabilization and a 10X lens, it also fits in my pocket.

Unfortunately the MP-E65 has no counterpart, it is unique to Canon and fairly expensive. The best you can do to move past the 1:1 of most macro lens is to use either extension tubes, Bellows and/ or a reversed lens. All of which like the MP-E 65 will be manual focus and much cheaper.

If macro is your thing and you can afford a MP-E (and flash(es)) switch to Canon and save yourself a lot of hassle.

A 50mm reversed on bellows or extension tubes is possibly your best bet.....
Click here for some nice examples

In my experience none of the other options are as good as the MP-E in terms of usability or quality of results.

For example at 1:1 the MP-E65mm wipes the floor with the other Canon macro lenses. At higher magnifications the MP-E does more than wipe the floor with extension tubes on a 'normal' macro lens.....it really is very good at what it does

I was amazed by the quality Canon MP-E65mm produced, it gives a very good color and contrast along with sharpness but since it has no auto focus, manual focusing requires a lot of effort and a very good eye sight.
It is also a bit heavy and can only be used for macro and i will not recommend it for beginners.
Overall it is the best macro lens i have had till now.

I adore my Tamron 90:2.8 (see my post for some examples). I have a Canon 50D body.

I hear the 105mm sigma works pretty well. I dont shoot any macro so I can not say from experience. On the canon side I hear the Canon 100mm macro is a great lens.
