I like hdr when it isnt over done and looking well, cartoonish. You did a great job in not accomplishing this!
I might get rid of the really bright area thoa s it dominates your pocture.

a tighter crop would call attention purely on the flower...
the yellow one distracts... try to fill the shot with more of the red flower, maybe about 30 percent more...

the original shot in this thread is more to my liking.....the flower is well placed and the depth of field is pleasing.....i do agree that the bright yellow in the background is distracting my eye from the flower.....and easily toned down in post processing......
