I like hdr when it isnt over done and looking well, cartoonish. You did a great job in not accomplishing this!
I might get rid of the really bright area thoa s it dominates your pocture.

It was taken by DSC-R1 in braketing mode. Latter Photomatix was used for merging the pics and a little bit of tone mapping. DSC-R1 can take only 3 pics in BKT mode.

a tighter crop would call attention purely on the flower...
the yellow one distracts... try to fill the shot with more of the red flower, maybe about 30 percent more...
