What is your technique here? Is it just intentionally over-exposed to washout the background?

Excuse the newbie question, but I have no idea how you got that effect.

The insects were shot while eating melon. All I did was to increase the light background in Photoshop.
Thought it made a change from the green/flower backgrounds.

Those are great, in particular the fly. Looking forward to getting a macro lens over Christmas.
