Hi,
on my 105mm the apperture ring only clicks at "32". i tried to bring it to 2.8 but at this setting camera shows msg "fre". I than put everything on manual but msg remains the same. I am unable to understand what is the function of apperture ring and how to use it. pls help

On the D90, you should be able to adjust the aperture with the camera's controls, and not need to use the aperture ring on the lens.

You need an aperture ring with manual Nikon bodies. Otherwise, use your camera control to change the aperture.
