Default Trying Macro

Hi All!
These are my first few Macros. I took it without the polarizing filter and a Tripod. Though i wil get both of them soon. I am using Dsc-R1 and beside its being heavy i love this machine.
Looking forward for your comments...

Keen, Welcome

Dragonfly is very well done, although maybe tightly cropped. The center one is uncertainly focussed, and could be cropped to put subject (?) in a more interesting position. The fly on the string is great as a subject and for composition (could be cropped some on left and top), but suffers in its blurry condition. That would be worth trying to recreate (dip the string in sugar water?). Focussing can be improved with practice.

Thanks for your advice. Here is the original Dragonfly pic. About other 2 pics its not focussing, i was doing it without a tripod and i find DSC-R1 too heavy.

Hi Keen and welcome to the group. Please tell me a little about your technique in shooting these macros. For example, what lens and focal length were you using on the R1 as I am not familiar with that camera (but I have heard from friends that it is an excellent camera!). Did you manually focus or use auto? I found that if I used autofocus and then rocked in or out slightly, I would get a variety of focal points. That coupled with using the lens stopped down but not to its maximum, would help considerably. Use as high a shutter speed as you can since you are not using a tripod. Also try out the higher ISO's. Don't worry about 'noise' or grain while you are sharpening your skills. Lastly, always think about your background. Whwile the backgrounds in your shots do not compete with the subject, always be aware of what is back there. Again, welcome to the group!
