Well your are very creative! I read an article a day or so ago where the author used a Magnafying Glass and a Point and shoot camera to obtain some really neat results. So who need a fancy Macro lens Huh?
Keep it up Thanks for sharing Michael.

Great going, SharkBait! I simply love the water drop shot, I think you did a wonderful job with the focusing. As others have mentioned, DOF is an issue even with a dedicated macro lens so you are actually not losing out on much. Maybe only the ability to auto-focus, but that doesn't work too well in a macro situation anyway.

Sharkbait. You shots are great, I like the bee, with the tools you are using, this is consider very good. Like what wulf said, shallow DoF and manual focus is unavoidable with macro shooting. So get used to it. you'll get better as you work on.

Sweet, thanks guys for the feedback! To know that macro and a shallow DoF kind of go hand in hand, will allow me to keep playing around and experiment.
I just have to get steadier I think with my hands. The 58-52mm filter adapter I have being sent to me should help as I won't have to hold the lenses together.

Try shooting macro with a tripod. It can be very handy. Againt need some practise as is not easy to use tripod for macro.

Excellent work!
I've tried both fixed and zoom lenses for macro and actually like using my 12~60mm. I know I'll catch crap for saying that from the macro purists out there but hey, photography is all about experimentation and keeping track of what works and what doesn't. Also, I've found that using a zoom lens for macro and increasing your distance from the subject increases the focal plane and slightly increases DOF. Here's an example where I used a zoom lens at a greater distance from the subject zooming in to frame the shot.

I think these are great, the DOF works really well. Good luck job hunting.
