What an eye-catching title, Jiminy. I really like this picture, especially the little hairs on whatever it is she's standing on. Is she missing an antenna?

Peach, Thanks

Neato avatar. If you think of a clock face, the antenna showing is 11 o'clock, the eye is about 4 o'clock, and the second antenna is in front at about 7 o'clock. Did you see the little waterdrop in armpit?

The fuzzy stem was a goldenrod-like wildflower.

yet another wonderfully done macro....

i've told you before that i believe you are amazing with these shots.....and after my brief elementary school tutorial, i have so much respect for what you do.....

all this while, i thought that what you shot was far larger than it actually is....

so, tell me this.....are you literally lying down in the grass when you shoot these, or do you grab a handful of fluff, bring it up to a comfortable level and align your shot?.....

thanks again....

peeperita, Too kind

Depending on the situation, either/both. I can quickly snip off small stems and rotate the weed as the crawling critter creeps around. Grasshoppers, butterflies, and dragonflies will spook before I even get close, so they are in-the-grass shots. My ant shots outnumber most other insects' photos because they're so cooperative.

When you get your routine figured out, you'll see how easy this is, and the magic will become simple observation and patience.

I should do more of this for comparison. This is before the loupe was introduced:

clockdoc, Thanks

Macro is probably going to account for the majority of what goes through my camera and PC, Flickr and DPS. The Rose Society and a Nature Exhibit near here are targets for showing more of these, with an eye toward getting "known" and perhaps commissioned. It is so much fun for something so rewarding yet relatively simple.
