![]() Full view click --- Here --- This picture was taken in Brazil, on an island south of Rio de Janeiro back in March. It was on a hike to a 'blue lagoon' when our trainer/guide noticed it. I -think- it's of the glasswing family. He said it's quite rare. She was very patient with me, and we must have stood there for about 20 minutes while I tried to get every good shot I could. For this one, I was laying on the jungle floor, less than 5-inches away from her. The orange thing she's eating from is a 'mini coconut'; tastes kind of like pumpkin but oilier. The only thing I do not like, is the leaf that is blurred at the bottom of the picture, obscuring it somewhat. When I noticed it (right after this shot) I tried to move it but she panicked and flew off. She never did settle on anything for too long. This was taken with my Canon Powershot S1 IS. The EXIF data is: Focal length: 5.8mm (35mm equivalent: 40mm) CCD width: 5.28mm Exposure time: 0.0080 s (1/125) Aperture: f/3.2 ISO equiv.: 100 Whitebalance: Manual Light Source: Daylight Metering Mode: matrix Exposure Mode: Auto bracketing Not really macro but, close up I guess. I'm really proud of this, especially since the Canon was working (it worked the whole week were on the island, then when we got back to Rio, it didn't work 90% of the time). Cheers.

Wow, what a beautiful butterfly. I cant say that i have ever seen one that looked anything like that. O'm not sure what the orange thing is but it does distract from that amazing creature

What a cool butterfly! I agree with Windrider that the orange object he's feeding on is a bit distracting. If you selectively desaturate that color, you might be able to de-emphasize it a bit while keeping the overall composition. You're right to be proud of capturing a rare bug so clearly. Congrats!
