Default Water Drop Macro

I saw someone else post pictures of water drops using the D40 with the kit lens and thought I'd try it myself. I'm really surprised at how well the lens works for macro photography. I filled a glass of water to the top, placed it in a well lit area, and shot away at 1/500 shutter speed using the flash. Placed the camera on a tripod. I used different colored papers for the background and red food coloring. I'm really pleased at how these turned out.

I particularly like the second one - the change of viewing angle adds a lot of interest.

Good work.

Nice j ob. I too have done this on numerous occasions. Most dont turn out but the ones that do are well worth the effort. I liked your idea of food coloring. Giving me new ideas!
