Default Water Drops

Hi My name is Shannon. I am new here. I have been doing photography for a couple of years now. I mostly do portraits but have been interested in other typed of photography.

I have been wanting to try shooting water drops. So last night I picked up my camera and set a JTL 160 watt strobe with a snoot on it and Shot pictures of water.

I want to learn mch more about this. I found the science of it to be very amazing. I want to get better and better so any advice would help.

well, i can't see your shots but I have just tried a few water drop shots as well.

A few pointers:
1. Water is a specular (reflective) object. In order to light it well, you need to light what it will be reflecting. So hit the background with your flash, not the water.
2. Use a colored background and another color above for added depth.
3. If you don't have colored backgrounds, you can use a gel on your flash, or if you don't have gels, you can shoot in tungsten WB mode to make the water appear blue.
4. read/watch this

Resurrecting this post since I was going to post a "how I shot this" with a link to Strobist but I wanted to see if someone else did it already.

I saw how to do it on strobist before I saw this post and gave it a shot with an off camera flash and such. It came out great! And I just tweaked the white balance in post to get some moody colors like this one!

If you go to http://www.timarai.com/blog/2009/07/...-8pm-07032009/ and go down to the last photo, it's a "behind the scenes" that shows you my setup too.

Pretty neat

I saw this on YouTube ages ago and tagged it so I could come back one day. It's quite a good "How To" video, if you've got the gear.
