Ah yes, the new Avatar. I am doing Sime's 365 thing, and as I generate more self-portraits I will probably be rotating the avatar around a bit. My wife said the old one looked like it was shot in prison, so maybe it was time anyway.

Baseballboy -- I know the D70 can do the commander thing (that's why Strobist stuck one in his notional gear bag), but I don't think the D50 does. There are a few workarounds -- sync cable, the Wein Peanut slave that plugs into your SB600's sync port, or radio triggers.

Also, could the D50 act as trigger? Sorry for be stupid, I just got my SB-600 and haven't had nearly enough time to play with it.
Baseballboy -- No such thing as stupid questions. You're right, I misunderstood your question. I did not choose f/13 as a specific number as much as I did for the right balance of DOF and bokeh. (Again, see the thread I'm about to work on about this). This particular lens goes up to f/32. Aperture of f/22 or higher on a tripod would certainly have kept the whole bee in focus, but would have sacraficed some of the quality of the bokeh. (Also I don't tend to hike with a tripod, so I just have my hiking staff to use as a monopod).

I tend to shoot in program mode with auto ISO turned on, and the camera with 105mm lens always defaults to f/2.8. If I frequently end up at f/13, it's because I spin the command dial and try again. Maybe I always spin the same amount? It's not calculated.

I think Elay already answered your flash question, I have nothing intelligent to add.

I quite like your old avatar. A little like a capture from an old movie maybe? Not prisonesque at all!

Thumbs up It's Ready!!

As discussed above, I wrote a thread in the "Other Techniques" section about what I learned from this shoot regarding bokeh. See the thread:

HERE

Hope it answers some questions!
