Not sure if this is the right forum, I also posted it in "Macro", but maybe someone here can give me a clue.
I have a one shot 360 lens that I want to attach to my D700. I have got the step down rings to make the attachment, but I can not get the lens to focus. I have tried adding a close up lens in the mix, but not successful. I have tried a variety of lenses, but to no avail. What am I missing? It will work on a point and shoot camera with an attachment ring. Figure maybe it has something to do with lens to lens distance setup. Anyone think a extension tube would work? Thanks for your thoughts in advance JM

IM closing this thread....you should be able to get some help from the first post in macro section.
Ther are no double posting here...good luck finding out how to get it to work properly. I have no clue or I would try and help you out. I'll see what I can find online.

Given that you're trying to combine a very weird wide-angle, I'm guessing your combination may simply not focus. I once tried reversing an 8mm fisheye for macro use, and couldn't get the combination to focus at all.

Yeah, that could be, but I just wanted to put it out there to see if anyone had a fix. The thing that nags me is that if it will work with a point and shoot, then what is the reason for not working with another setup. PS. Did you post this: When you use a reversed lens (or extension tube, or close-up filter for that matter), you have to give up the idea of framing and then focusing. Focus will be controlled solely by your distance to the subject. In other words, move the lens closer to/farther from your subject to focus. You'll have a very very limited distance range at which the subject will be in focus. This is also why a macro lens is better than any of the cheaper methods--it can focus over a larger range of distances, so you have more ability to choose your frame. I understand, thanks. But this is not showing up on this thread - weird Thanks again for the help JM

This is what happens when I mod before coffee Good luck on the fix, the only time I've ever tried it I switched to manual because I was handholding the second lens.

I am still trying to figure out the problem, trying a lot of different things to see if I can stumble on to it. Thanks though.... JM

Been playing around and come to the conclusion, that need some kind of tube to give me enough distance to the next lens in order to focus at that point.

My gut feel is that it won't work. Extension tubes tend to bring the max. focus distance in closer, not extend it outwards. When a lens isn't held at the precise mount distance, it loses the ability to focus to infinity. Go ahead and try it, though. I could be wrong.
The reason this combo can work with your P&S and not your dSLR is the difference in the sensor-to-lens difference, not to mention the tiny focal length of the P&S lens. P&S cameras whomp at macro compared to dSLRs.
