Default A Glowing Flower

Here is a recent shot taken with my Nikon E series 50mm f/1.8 and Raynox DCR-250 adapter:

Fuchsia Close-up

The aperture was set at f/8 but, because of the nature of macro photography, the depth of field was still fairly minimal. However, I think that has contributed to the "glow" that this shot has. The bright colours start to become soft towards the top and edges of the flower, as if I had added a glow effect in post processing.

Set against a very out of focus background in complementary colours and brought to life by sharp focus on the details of the fuchsia flower, I am very pleased with this picture and intend to try consciously replicating it in future.

Has anyone else taken macro shots that seem to glow like this?

Wulf

A while back I posted some purple coneflower shots. I don't remember if I included them in the post, but I did get quite a glow as focus dropped off on the petals on some shots. Not as pronounced as in this photo though.

I guess it is a function of the intensity/brightness of the colour against a lighter background?

(By the way, when I first eyeballed this, my first reaction (after admiration) was that you had captured a floral jellyfish.)

mysticeyesx, I think your shot would glow more if you had the focus back at the centre of the flower and even more if you angled the camera so all the leading petal edges were roughly level - it is definitely glowing a little bit at the edge of some of the back petals (where the pinky-red turns to orange).
