Red face Help?!?

OK, So, I thought I would try this whole Macro thing, with my new camera (Canon XS-upgraded from orig Canon Rebel) I have had a sigma 75-300mm lens forever, and have never played with the Macro on the side of it. So...the other night, i thought what the hey, I would give it a go, but now, I cant get it to do anything, no focus, no auto, I cant even get it off the Macro. As you can see, I am new to all of this, but I LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY and am very eager to learn. I have just discovered DPS the other day, and I must say that I am obsessed!

Any and all help is appreciated. Please be gentle. I would look in the manual, but I lost that a long time ago.

Please tell me I havent broke it.....

Thanks!!

Usually to get it out of Macro mode you need to turn it to manual focus and turn the focus ring until it is out of the banded area on the ring. Then you can flip the switch and get it out of macro mode.

It won't auto focus? How far away are you? I'm confused about the focusing part.

Ok great, I got it out of the Macro mode, just like you said, turning it to the manual function, and this allows me to take a picture, but when I put it back into AF, it only makes this weird noise and the shutter will not release.....

I think I really did mess it up?

The main reason the shutter won't release is because it's not in focus. You may think it is, but the camera doesn't think it is. Give it a second and let it find what it wants and then try taking the picture. The lens hunts more in low light, so try it in a brightly lit area and see if the autofocus issue works in good light.
